Log pregnancy checks and confirm a pregnancy

Record spit-off tests and scans on a mating, confirm the pregnancy when you are sure, and learn the outcomes you will see later.

After a mating, record each spit-off test or scan as a check on that mating. When you are sure she is pregnant, confirm it. AlpacaKeep never tells you when to test and never decides a pregnancy for you.

Log a check

  1. Breeding → Pregnancies. Find the female under Awaiting confirmation and press Log a check. On her own Breeding tab the button is there too.
  2. Type of check. Pick Spit-off test, Scan, or Other check.
  3. Day of the check. It must be after the mating day and not in the future. The app shows which day since the mating it is.
  4. Result. A spit-off test is Refused (she spat at or ran from the male) or Sat (she sat down for him). A scan or other check is Pregnant, Not pregnant, or Unclear.
  5. Note (optional), for example what the vet said. Press Save.

You can keep one check of each type per day. Each check shows on her row as a small marker with the day number: a circle is a spit-off test, a square is a scan or other check. Filled means a sign of pregnancy, hollow means she sat or is not pregnant, dashed means unclear or too early to read.

To change or delete a check, tap its marker, or the check in her Breeding tab. Pick another result, or Delete this check.

Tip. Testing several females on one day? Press Check several females on the Awaiting confirmation card. Pick the type and the day once, then a result for each female, and save them together.

After the result

When a check on a mating that is still waiting says Sat or Not pregnant, the box asks After this check:

  • Nothing else. The mating keeps waiting.
  • Mated again. Pick the Male: the male of this mating is filled in, and you can choose another one. Enter the Mating date. The old mating closes as not pregnant and a new one starts. With another male, AlpacaKeep checks the colour pairing as it does for any new mating.
  • Close this mating: not pregnant.

When a check says Pregnant, you can tick Also confirm the pregnancy.

Good to know. Recorded “Mated again” by mistake? Delete the new mating: the earlier one goes back under Awaiting confirmation by itself, as long as the check that closed it is unchanged.

Confirm the pregnancy

  1. Breeding → Pregnancies. On her row, open the ⋯ menu and choose Confirm pregnancy. On her Breeding tab it is a button.
  2. Confirmation method and Confirmation date. They are filled in from her checks. Change them if you need to. The date cannot be before the mating or in the future.
  3. Revised due date (optional). AlpacaKeep works out the due date from the species' gestation, about 11.5 months for an alpaca. Change it only if your vet gave you another date.
  4. Confirm pregnancy. She moves to Pregnant and shows in your birth watch as she nears term.
