To plan work, create a task. To record work that is done, log an event. That is the whole rule: a task is something to do, an event is something that happened.
The difference
An event is like a line in a paper farm diary: the vaccination you gave this morning, the shearing you finished last week. Events build each animal's history, and a logged medication starts its withdrawal tracking. A task is like a sticky note on the fridge: worm the weanlings, fix the fence, vaccinate next Tuesday.
Plan now, log later: vaccination day
Say vaccination day is next Tuesday. The task and the event work as a pair:
- Tasks → New. Give the task a title and set the due date to Tuesday.
- Link an event type. Pick Vaccination. This link is the bridge between the plan and the record.
- Add the animals (optional), then save.
- On Tuesday, mark the task done. A pre-filled event form opens. Save it, and the vaccination is logged, medication details and withdrawal tracking included.
The task leaves your list, and an event takes its place in the herd's history.

Watch out. You cannot give an event a future date. That is on purpose: an event is a record, and you cannot record what has not happened yet. If you catch yourself trying, what you want is a task.
Good to know. Some tasks are made for you. When you log a medication and schedule follow-up doses, each reminder is a task. Email reminders are not switched on yet, so the Tasks list and the dashboard are your reminder.
